As a part of France’s ongoing efforts to pacify the scenario alongside the Lebanon-Israel border, which has persevered for months, it has proposed a paper aimed toward restoring peace and safety in Lebanon.
In response, the Ministry of International Affairs supplied its suggestions on this paper, following a gathering between caretaker International Minister Abdallah Bou Habib and French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro, throughout which Lebanon’s official response was delivered.
Minister Bou Habib initiated the assembly by expressing gratitude for “France’s constant help and concern for Lebanon, emphasizing France’s honest need for the nation’s well-being and prosperity”.
He highlighted Lebanon’s acknowledgement that “the French initiative is a vital step in direction of attaining peace and safety in southern Lebanon.”
Moreover, the Ministry “reiterated Lebanon’s stance, emphasizing its aversion to battle and its insistence on the full implementation of UN Safety Council Decision 1701”.
In line with the Related Press, France’s proposal consists of “a provision for Hezbollah to withdraw its forces 10 kilometers from the border with Israel.”
