Hussein al-Husseini, the previous Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, handed away on Wednesday on the age of 86.
In 1984, Al-Husseini was elected because the Speaker of the Parliament and held this place till 1992. Nabih Berri took his place proper after and has held the place ever since.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued an announcement on the passing of Al-Husseini, saying “Right this moment Lebanon has misplaced an genuine nationwide and constitutional stature.”
He went on to say that Al-Husseini’s presence and management was a major milestone within the historical past of parliamentary work in Lebanon.
Tomorrow’s parliamentary session to elect a president has been postponed by Berri over the information of his passing.
